Obituary for Brian Murray

MURRAY: Brian D.
May 22, 1949 - May 6, 2024
Brian Murray passed away peacefully at his residence in Saskatoon Saskatchewan on Monday, May 6, 2024.
Brian was born an only child on May 22, 1949 to Dave and Irene Murray and spent most of his earlier years in South Allan. Brian and his family moved to a farm near Young when Brian was in his high school years. It was here that young romance with Jacky Dieno further blossomed into marriage. Brian and Jacky soon welcomed two daughters into their lives, Barbie and Kathy. Dad supported his young family by helping his dad on the farm and working at the mine at Colonsay. In time he ended up taking over the family farm and building on the insurance business of Murray Agencies. As an active member of the community Brian enjoyed supporting and participating in many capacities to help make Young a thriving town in which to live.
Mom and Dad loved to travel and went on many adventures together and took us on many ski trips and camping outings as well. They purchased a winter get away place in Hemet, California and spent time with good friends golfing, riding motorcycle and just escaping from the frigid Canadian winters. During the summer they could be found at Candle Lake going out on the boat or golfing a round at the course. Mom and Dad liked the lake life so much that after retirement they made their home there.
Dad was well known for his unique sense of humour as well as his love of pulling pranks on unsuspecting acquaintances, neighbours or even total strangers. Most people will remember Brian with a smile on their face thinking back to all of the hilarious stories and situations that are associated with him. Friends and neighbours alike were important to Dad. He cherished his relationships with all of them and was good at reaching out to long lost friends to rekindle those important kinships.
Brian was predeceased by his wife, Jacky (Dieno) Murray; his parents, Dave and Irene Murray; his in-laws Rose and Eric Dieno and step-mother Lillian Dieno; and sister-in-law, Darlene Kendall.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Barbie (Ken) Vanthuyne and Kathy Murray (Brian Larkin); his grandchildren, Chelsea, Dawson and Erica Vanthuyne; his beloved grand dogs (of course); sister-in-law Karen (Stuart) Elderkin; brother-in-law Bill Kendall, brother-in-law Brian Dieno; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving and precious friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, May 13 at 2:00 pm at the Young Community Hall in Young, Saskatchewan. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers donations towards Candle Lake Communities in Bloom or SK Heart and Stroke are appreciated.
