Obituary for Mel Saelhof

SAELHOF: Mel K.
March 30, 1957 - April 24, 2024
Mel K. Saelhof, aged 67 of Simpson district passed away at Watrous District Health Complex on April 24, 2024. He was born on March 30, 1957 in the Watrous Union Hospital, the tenth and last child of Joe and Thelma Saelhof. He shared his birthday with his oldest brother Francy.
Mel was a man of simple pleasures who liked a game of cards, a country drive to check out the deer and visiting over a good meal, a cup of coffee or a beer. He loved to spend time with his family and was a proud grampa to his dozen grandchildren. He leaves many special memories of time spent with his family and his many good friends. Mel was a skilled mechanic, a motorhead from way back, who loved restoring old cars and was proud of the 1971 Chevelle he rebuilt. He worked for many years in road construction and then as a grader operator in the RM's of Arm River, Wood Creek and Wreford. His skill in road maintenance was second to none. And when any job was complete, his quirky quote might be " that's good enough for the girls we go with".
Mel is survived by his special girls, daughters Stephanie (Jeremy) Nimchuk, Nicole Mooney, Mallory (Jacob) Sprawson, Jolene Saelhof; and his precious grandchildren Sean, Alissa, Brodie, Jayden, McKenna, Cullen, Aria, Isaac, Emberlee, Blake, Kinsley and Autumn. He will also be missed by his siblings Linda (Louie) Kingston, Howard(Judy) Saelhof, Don (Connie) Saelhof, Darlene Barth, Carol (Brian) Mudry: sisters-in-laws Blanche Saelhof and Betty Saelhof; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Joe and Thelma Saelhof, his siblings Francy Saelhof, Jerry Saelhof, Marilyn McRae, Judy McLaren; brothers-in-law Terry Barth, Dave McLaren, John McRae: nephew Max Saelhof; nieces Laurie Saelhof and Courtney Kingston.
A Celebration of Life will take place in Simpson, Sk at a later date, with interment to follow in Simpson cemetery. Memorial donations "In Memory of Mel Saelhof" can be made to the Saskatchewan Cancer Foundation. Please visit http://fotheringham-mcdougall.com for details.
