Obituary for Josephine Richardson

Josephine N. Richardson (Nicolson)
1929 - 2023

It is with sadness that the Richardson family announces the passing of wife & mother, Josephine Nanette Richardson (nee Nicolson) on October 10th, 2023.

Josephine was born March 5th, 1929 in Perth, Scotland to Helen & Albert Nicolson. Too young for WWII service, Josephine joined the RAF after completing nursing college in Edinburgh. Part of a medical crew, she travelled to many parts of the world, retrieving injured veterans, as they became well-enough to be transported.

Alan Richardson travelled to Britain to visit relatives and met Josephine. Josephine later moved to Alberta and worked as a public heath nurse in the Drumheller area. In 1961 Alan married Josephine at the Anglican church in Semans.

For several years, Josephine worked at the Nokomis hospital. She was involved with the Anglican Church Women (ACW) and the Semans Badminton Club. Also the choir “The Semans Singers”, which both she and Alan enjoyed. In later years, Josephine was the organist for the Semans United Church, and taught piano. She also volunteered at the Semans Senior’s Centre.
Josephine enjoyed a shared passion with Alan, growing flowers and tomatoes in their greenhouse and gardens.

Josephine is predeceased by her husband Alan, and brothers Iain and Donald Nicolson, and is survived by her children John (Cynthia), Kathleen (Joel), and Iain (Coreen).

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
