Obituary for Edna Farago

FARAGO: Edna J.
January 7, 1935 - January 3, 2023
The death of Edna Farago, age 87 yrs occurred peacefully at Manitou Lodge Watrous Health District Complex on Tuesday January 3, 2023.
Edna was born in Humboldt to Elsie and John Kienlen January 7, 1935. She grew up in the Humboldt area where her mother was a school teacher at a number of small communities. She started her school years at Banner school then Elmsville and finally Golden Hill school by Plunkett where she met the love of her life Leslie Farago. They were married in 1952 and spent over 67 years together. They settled on the Farago family farm south of Plunkett, engaged in mixed farming for 24 years. Mom became a busy farm wife raising three daughters while milking cows, raising chickens and growing an enormous garden. She kept the cellar full of canned fruit and vegetables, pickles, relish, jam and jellies. Her freezer was always full of home baked goods, bread, buns, cakes and cookies. If you came to visit you couldn't leave without lunch.
In 1974 Mom and Dad retired from farming and moved to Watrous. Mom still had a large garden but felt the need to keep busy and engaged in a number of hobbies over the years. She did ceramics, macrame, crochet, stretch and knit sewing and fine knitting on her knitting loom. Her hobbies helped fill the time but her priority, pride and joy was her family. Mom was always there for us through our marriages, the birth of our babies, in illness and health. She was our support, offering positive encouragement and celebrating our successes.
She took even greater pleasure from her Grandchildren and loved having them visit and sleep over. She was a strong influence in their lives and helped mould them into the successful adults they are today. On special occasions she would write notes or letters to them praising their accomplishments and displaying her pride and love in them. And when the Great Grandkids arrived the glow on her face said it all, she loved her family fiercely.
Memories will be cherished by her daughters, Donita (Ken)Schaffel, Darlene Martin, Lorna (Brad)Habermehl. Grandchildren Mark(Tammy)Schaffel, Dallas(Candace)Schaffel, Lesley(Matt)Kelly Derek Martin(Hollie Kozar), Lindsay Martin, Kim(Warren)Harding, eleven great grandchildren and brother-in-law Lyle Leyh.
Edna was predeceased by her husband Leslie, son-in-law Garnet Martin, grandson Kris Habermehl, parents Elsie and John Kienlen, brother Alfred Kienlen, brother and sister-in-law John and Leona Farago and sister-in-law Agnes Leyh.
Mom was like a beacon for all of us, always there, always loving. We have been slowly and painfully robbed of our biggest supporter and guiding light.
