Obituary for Violet Hemingway

HEMINGWAY: Violet O. (Moore)
June 21, 1919 - April 19, 2022
Violet Hemingway was born June 21, 1919 to parents Tom and Jane Moore. She passed away on April 19, 2022 at the Nokomis Health Centre.
Raised in Last Mountain District near Duval, SK she had many good memories of summer picnics, ball games, Christmas concerts, local dances and family gatherings while growing up.
She attended Regina Normal School and after graduation taught at Vassar School near Moose Jaw and at Saline School near Nokomis. It was here that she met Fred Hemingway and was married on February 4, 1942. They lived in the Saline Creek area for one year, moving to the Semans area for three years and then to a farm in the Richfarms area near Nokomis where they raised their nine children. Her large family kept her busy with a huge garden, school lunches, and chickens and turkeys to raise each year.
Church work was important to Violet who taught Sunday School, served on the United Church Council, and also as chairperson of the United Church Women.
She enjoyed many trips with both family and friends, including visits to the British Isles, France, PEI, Nashville, Hawaii, Disneyland, Florida, Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand.
Her later years were kept busy with the Nokomis Senior Citizens Organization and get togethers with family who often brought her much happiness. As she often said, “I had a good life.”
Violet was predeceased by husband Fred, sister Ethyl, son Harvey, son-in-law Jim, and daughter-in-law Bev. She is survived by Fred (Jo-Ann), Sharon (Brian), Iris, Alan (Wendy), Glen, Hugh (Wendy), Audrey (Bob), Phyllis (Steve) and daughter-in-law Marilyn; along with 29 grand children, 47 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
