Obituary for Elwood Hodgins

Russell Elwood Hodgins
April 23, 1931 - February 13, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Russell Elwood Hodgins, on February 13, 2022 at the Nokomis Health Centre. Elwood was born April 23, 1931 on the family farm at Semans, SK where he lived and worked on the family farm his entire life. After the passing of his father in 1945, Elwood, along with his brother Doug, assumed the responsibility of continuing the operation of the family farm for their mother, Pearl. In 1955, Elwood married his lifelong partner Ada (nee McConnell) and together they continued to grow the farm and raised two children, Lin and Darlene. Elwood’s determination to be involved in all aspects of farming kept him active his whole life. In his later years this included making many trips for machinery parts, checking cows during calving season, caring for his horses and keeping a watchful eye on the seeding and harvest progress.
Elwood and Ada took many trips together over the years and were able to spend 19 years wintering in Yuma, AZ where they made many dear friends. Elwood was often the “go-to” guy in their Yuma neighbourhood whenever a truck and a helping hand were needed.
Elwood leaves to mourn, his wife Ada and their furry family member, Sunny; his son Lin (Kathryn); daughter Darlene (Gary); grandchildren Hollie, Malia (Ryan), Tristan (Whitney) and great grandchildren Ayla and Emmi; brother Bryan (Kim); sister-in-law Hilda; brother-in-law Ernie, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Elwood was predeceased by his parents Russell and Pearl, brother Douglas, sister Iva (Walter) Hillis and grandson Dustin.
We shall miss Elwood’s quiet ways, gentle smile and loving support, but we will take comfort in knowing he will always be watching over the family and land he loved so much. Rest softly now, from a life well lived. A private family service and interment will take place near Semans at a later date.
For those so wishing donations to Semans First Responders or Nokomis Health Centre would be appreciated.
