Obituary for Mabel Mattson

MABEL MATTSON
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Mabel Mattson (nee Coldham), on Tuesday May 25, 2021 at the Circle Drive Special Care Home in Saskatoon at the age of 89 following a long struggle with Dementia.
Mom was born Sept. 18, 1931 in the Colonsay District. Mom loved to go to dances and that was where she met our dad, Herman Mattson. They were married on Nov. 27, 1951 and moved onto the Mattson farm near Meacham where Dad was born and raised. They had a mixed farm with lots of animals. Mom especially loved the farm cats, so she usually had a special one in the house. Because Mom always had a big garden, she had lots of vegetables which also kept her very busy in the fall, aside from hauling grain.
Mom stayed on the farm for 5 years after Dad passed away in 2004, then in 2009 she moved to Saskatoon to Elim Seniors Lodge. In 2015, Mom went into a personal care home and then to Extendicare. In November of 2015, Mom moved to Circle Drive Special Care Home, where she enjoyed being part of a great family until her passing.
Mom is survived by her three children: Curtis Mattson, Brenda (Dave) Schaffel, Shelley (Dennis) Rosaasen; four grandchildren: Chelsey Schaffel (Nathan Poellet), Arlin Schaffel (Hilary Gough), Tamara Pogoda (Ben), Breanne Rosaasen (Leslie Churko); three great-grandchildren: twins Milo and Murphy Pogoda, and Sloane Mabel Churko. Mom is also survived by sister-in-law Gladys McArthur of B.C., brother-in-law Paul Hrynkiw of Rosetown, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband Herman, her parents, Harry and Fanny Coldham, her two older sisters, Ella and Edith, as well as numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Mabel’s family would like to thank the staff, nurses, and caregivers at the Circle Drive Special Care Home for their exceptional care and kindness. Mom had a very close relationship with many of the workers, some who lovingly called her “little momma” or “little one.”
Due to Covid restrictions, a private funeral service will be held Sunday May 30, 2021 at St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery, SE of Meacham.
