Obituary for Jim Schlosser
James “Jim” Peter Schlosser
May 17, 1945 – May 16, 2021
James Schlosser was born in Punnichy, Sk. in 1945, to Peter and Anna (nee Bentz) Schlosser, the third child and only son in a family of four. He grew up on the family farm until moving to Regina for work. He married Janet Bentley of Plunkett, Sk. On June 17 1967. They lived in Regina with daughters Jo Anne and Jennifer until 1974. That year they purchased the farm south of Plunkett from Janet’s parents, Carl and Ethel Bentley. There they welcomed two more children, Jason and Janice.
Jim farmed with help from his growing family and worked at Lanigan PCS mine for many years until his retirement in 2009. In 2019, Jim and Janet moved to Humboldt.
Dad enjoyed spending time with friends, visiting over coffee and cards. He knew all the rules for Cribbage and Kaiser and would gladly help if you were unsure. He didn’t even mind when we skunked him.
Dad would take us fishing every summer break. He would teach us how to tie and bait our lines and share in the excitement of a fish on. We all enjoyed the time on the lake with family.
With infinite patience and calm, Dad taught us all to drive a tractor so we could help on the farm. It was the same calm he had with the animals on the farm. Creatures from the smallest chick or kitten to the largest cow would gravitate to Dad. Even deer would visit in the morning while Dad had his coffee on the deck.
Dad’s greatest joy was his children and grandchildren. Nothing made Dad happier than spending time with the little ones or talking to them on the phone.
We miss you Dad.
Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years Janet (nee Bentley), children Jo Anne Wastell and daughter Kelsey Schlosser, Jennifer Mann and children Matthew and Raesha Berry and Bethany and Ellowyn Mann, Jason (Angie) Schlosser, and Janice (Chris) Pratchler and children Gabrielle, Violet and Mars; sisters Margaret Senft, Marian Nemeth, and Lydia (Greg) Kapell as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents Peter and Anna Schlosser, brothers-in-law Eugene Senft and Joe Nemeth, sons-in-law Peter Wastell and Edward Mann.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be a private family memorial and internment at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Cemetery.
