REMLINGER: N. Paul
March 30, 1933 – February 12, 2021
Nicholas Paul Remlinger (“Paul”) passed away on the morning of February 12, 2021 at 87 years of age. He was born on March 30, 1933 in Saskatoon, SK, the second of four children and only son of Paul and May Remlinger. An avid traveler from the beginning, Paul was 6 weeks old when the family moved from Liberty to Crooked River, SK, by horse and buggy, returning to Liberty in 1936. Paul grew up around Liberty as well as Illinois, and California. He farmed in the Liberty area his entire life, wintering with his folks in southern California where he met Carol Cook. They were married November 30, 1956 in Fullerton, CA, and welcomed four children.
Paul enjoyed spending time with his family playing games, camping in Saskatchewan and Alaska, travelling, building rockets, barbequing and going on picnics in all weather.
He was a highly respected member of the community who believed in serving those around him. He was a member of the Church Board, Sports Association, the Liberty Service Club (Optimists Club), was Chairman of the School Board, Counsellor (1991-2004), and Reeve (2005-2012) of the R.M. of Big Arm No. 251.
Paul enjoyed travelling with Carol. Their extensive trips included Hawaii, Norfolk Island, Easter Island, Australia and other islands in the Pacific, Antarctica, the British Isles, Iceland, bus trips that stretched the length of North America, and several trips through the Panama Canal and along the Amazon. He loved spending time by and on the ocean.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, Paul and May, an infant son, sisters Columbine, May, and Luetta. He is survived by Carol, his wife of 64 years; children Robin (Colin) Ward, Launa (Randy) Patrick, Nick (Gail), and Trent (Paula Jane); grandchildren Jared, Carolyn, Savannah, AJ, Richard, Tonya, Adrianna, Matthew, Caleb, Celina, Chantelle, Tara, and Brandon; great-grandchildren Hannah, Isaac, Laura, Alistair, and Maverick.
Paul will be remembered for his dedication to farming, sense of fun, pursuit of education, and love of travelling. He always enjoyed talking about farming and machinery. One of his favorite things was running the combine at harvest time, looking out over the lake, the sun-covered fields and watching the geese fly south. Being out on his land in the beauty of nature brought him great joy, and watching the passing seasons from the house he built for his family was something he never tired of. His enthusiasm for life helped him through his difficult last few years, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
