Obituary for Leona Sather

SATHER: Leona (nee Paproski)
Leona (87) passed away peacefully at Watrous District Health Complex on November 6, 2020, with 2 family members at her side (per COVID restrictions). She was mother, grandmother, GG, sister, auntie, and friend. She will be missed!
Leona was born on March 24, 1933 to Jack and Margaret Paproski. Her early years were on the farm in the Sinnet area. After graduating Grade 12 in Humboldt, Leona moved to Saskatoon where she began work as a telephone operator. Soon, she transferred to Watrous, where she met Palmer. They were married on June 9, 1953. Leona was no stranger to hard work having lived on the farm for many years. Eventually, she sought work off the farm, starting at the Chalet Pool, then Sears Catalogue Office, and eventually, Manitou Lodge where she worked for 21 years. Mom was of strong character; something all her children recognized. She held the family together and raised us to be strong, responsible, and independent.
Mom loved to bake buns, pies, and cookies. She taught us that food was a good way to support friends and family! Her grandchildren always looked forward to fresh buns, pickles, and the bag of popcorn curls for the ride home. She sewed clothes for us as children, crocheted and knit afghans, baby blankets, and many, many dish cloths and pot holders. She always enjoyed dances and playing cards with family and friends.
Memories will be cherished by her children Brian and his sons Dale (Patty, Danica), Mark; Bonnie (Rob Tomiyama) and children Patrick (Kaitlyn), Ryan (Esther), Alison; Cindy (Keith Vanthuyne) and children Jory (Sarah, Chase, Rylen), Brittany (Luc Poissant, Kyra, Macy), Braydon (Jaime, Emrie, Everett); Caralee (Dean Strome, Troy, Jennifer); sisters Dorene (Melvin Jaeb), Muriel Loeffler, Brenda (Brian Rowe); in-laws Bertha Paproski, Marlene Paproski, Thelma Sather; and many nieces and nephews.
Leona was predeceased by her husband Palmer (1997); her father John (1989), mother Margaret (1990), brothers Mervyn, Wilfred, Norman, and an infant sister; father-in-law Sverre (1952), mother-in-law Marie (1985), bothers-in-law Harold Sather, Ed Dewy, Don McKenzie, Harold Sundquist, Clarence Sather, Melvin Sather, Wilfred Loeffler; sisters-in-law Sophie Dewey, Mabel McKenzie, Anna Sundquist, Jean Sather; nephews Darren Sather, Gary McKenzie, niece Brenda Blundell, nephew-in-law Gordie Blundell.
Leona was blessed to have many good friends. She enjoyed living at Westridge the past 11 years and developed more friendships there.
The family thanks the Home Care staff for the support that allowed Mom to remain in her home the past 6 months, and the staff at Watrous Hospital who cared for Mom and supported family the last week of her life.
