Obituary for Henry Soderberg

SODERBERG: Henry M.
Dec. 22, 1932 – Nov 9, 2019
Henry was born December 22, 1932 to Arthur and Melsey Soderberg, the eldest of eight children. He went to Morris school and then Young school. At age 17 he headed to Alberta to work for an uncle on construction. He was involved in building several schools and at age 22, was a foreman on one job. While there he met Eileen Anderson whom he married on June 17, 1955. In 1957, Henry and Eileen moved to Saskatchewan to a quarter of land Henry had purchased and built a house. Along with farming, Henry had a wood working shop and he also helped build several houses in Young. In 1988, Henry and Eileen semi-retired from the farm, turning it over to son Bruce. Henry and Eileen ran Mandel House in Watrous until Eileen was diagnosed with cancer and passed away March 3, 1991. Henry then moved back to the farm and on October 2, 1992 married Ruby Schellenberg. Henry had an auction sale in 1993 but remained on the farm until 2010 when they moved to Young. Due to several surgeries Henry gradually became more dependent on a walker to get around. In October, Henry had a heart attack and passed away peacefully at Watrous Hospital on November 9, 2019. He was able to say goodbye to his family and friends, for which we are very thankful. Henry and Eileen had four sons; Wesley (Connie), Mark & Trevor; Dean (Susan), Tracy (Marty) & Lindsay; Eldon (Linda), Tyler (Lori) & Tasha; Bruce, Tara (Jamie) & Megen (Adam); one daughter Savanna, Erin; three stepchildren with Ruby; Rhonda (Mike), Nolan & Ellen; Neal (Suzanne), Lucas, Carter & Cole; Dennis (Teneille), Maya & Samuel; six great-grandchildren, Ryder & Xander Babcock, Dakota & Cheyanne Bush, Jackson Richie and Archer Prokopchuk. Henry is also survived by brothers and sister, Ralph (Iris) Soderberg, Doreen Grzenkowicz, Lennart Soderberg, Alvin (Pauline) Soderberg, brother-in-law Fred Brust, and sister-in-law Astrid Soderberg. A Memorial Service was held in the Young Community Centre, Young, SK on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. A Memorial Reception followed. A Private Family Interment in Covenant Lutheran Cemetery will take place at a later date.
