Obituary for Kathleen Anne "Kathy" Schaan (Brown)
Kathleen (Kathy) Schaan passed away at the age of 58, on Tuesday May 7th, at Watrous Union Hospital surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous three-year battle against cancer. She is survived by her loving husband Garry, son Curtis and daughter Trisha (Curtis) Hanson, parents Fred and Ann Brown, brother Dale (Kathy) Brown, sisters Judy (Roger) Galenza, Donna Brown, and Wendy (Michael) Thienes, sister-in-law Agnes Bourgeault, brothers-in-law Gerald Beavers and Bob Eltom along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother and father-in-law Gabrielle and Gertrude Schaan, sisters-in-law Theresa Beavers and Clara Eltom.
Born on March 18, 1961 to Fred and Ann Brown, she became her dad's birthday gift that year, and their first daughter. She was a younger sister for Dale and became the big sister to Judy, Donna, and Wendy. She grew up on the family farm near Central Butte where she enjoyed hanging out, playing sports, and participating in school activities. After graduation in 1979, Kathy moved to Moose Jaw where she worked at the Wheat Pool Livestock. In 1981, Kathy moved to Watrous to work at Henry Kelly Tractor. She met the love of her life Garry Schaan shortly after moving to Watrous and they were married July 14th, 1984. On June 9th, 1987 they welcomed their first child Curtis. After purchasing their forever home in 1989, they welcomed their second child Trisha, September 30th, 1990. After 9 years with Henry Kelly Tractor, she decided to stay home to raise her children and babysit others, which led to her nickname "Mama Kate". As the kids grew she dabbled in many home party businesses before she starting her career in the insurance industry, 13 years with Watrous Insurance and 2 years with Saskatoon Insurance Agencies. She then made the decision to return to work in Watrous and the agricultural business working with John Deere and finally Young's Equipment.
She was very active in the community as a member of many organizations including Kinettes, Salt Water Players, curling club and golf club. Kathy was always involved in her children's activities, be it their number one fan or coaching and assisting their teams. Anything Kathy did, she always gave 110%, including living life to the fullest. Even during life's struggles, she remained her positive self and was a rock for all those around her.
