Obituary for Nancy Stockdale (Walker)

Nancy Stockdale (nee Walker) passed away to be with her Lord on September 4, 2018 at the age of 96. She was predeceased by her husband, William Stockdale, her daughters, Joan and Kathy, and her brother, John Walker. She is survived by her brother, Robert Walker, and her children: Gordon (Barb), John (Judy), Carolyn (Don), Ruth Anne (Roland), and Fern (Kelly), and her grandchildren: Mat (Jo), Joy (Blayne), Shannon (Tim), Pam (Glenn), Elliott (Randi), Kerry (Trevor), Kelly (Travis), Ellen (Colin), Sarah, Jay (Christy), Jori, Vanessa, Jessica, Nancy (Parker), James, and Deanna, and her great-grandchildren.
She was born in 1922 in England and came to Canada at the age of 3 with her mother and father. They settled on a farm near Punnichy, where she grew up with her 2 brothers and went to school. She graduated in 1945 with her nursing degree after many gruelling hours of study and practical work. She did find time to be courted by William Stockdale, and they were married in 1945. Children soon followed, and although Nancy practised nursing privately for a while, she eventually devoted herself full-time to caring for her children and keeping the farm running. They moved to a farm outside Raymore in 1961 so that it would be easier for their children to go to school. Nancy and Bill also searched for a church home, and eventually settled into the congregation at Raymore Baptist Church, and found friends and a family in Christ that was a vital part of both of their lives. Nancy’s husband, Bill, died in 1999, and Nancy’s life entered a new phase that was focused on her children, grandchildren, extended family, gardening, church and community. She was resolute in being independent - she gardened and lived in her own home until this past May. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her life of giving to others, her faith, and her quiet, gentle, fun-loving spirit. A special thanks to the staff at Raymore Home Care, Nokomis Health Centre, and Silver Heights Home who provided such wonderful care to her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Raymore Baptist Church or to Silver Heights Auxiliary. The Funeral Service will be held at Raymore Baptist Church, Raymore, Saskatchewan on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Private Family Interment in Punnichy Community Cemetery.
