Obituary for Wilhelmina "Alma" VanSchaffelaar (VanDermolen)

Alma (nee van der Molen) passed away peacefully, surrounded by friends and family at Lanigan’s Central Parkland Lodge on Wednesday August 15, 2018. Born January 17, 1924 in Groningen, Holland, she was the second youngest of nine children. Alma married Dick van Schaffelaar on August 12, 1953. Together they welcomed 2 daughters. The young family immigrated to Canada in March 1959 settling in Wadena and later Wynyard. They took over the “old” Watrous Bakery in 1963 and in 1967 built a brand new modern bakery of their own. They worked tirelessly until retiring in Watrous in 1988. Years after Dick’s passing Alma moved to the Central Parkland Lodge in Lanigan and remained there happily until she passed away.
Alma so enjoyed music, bowling and crocheting but her greatest love of all was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Left to remember her are Alma’s two older sisters Zwany and Tina, two children Wilma (Burt) and Lida (Kim), 6 grandchildren Julia (Tim), Maria (Ryan), Jon (Jolene), Sheldon, Cora (Doug), Allison (Curtis) and 9 great-grandchildren Ethan, Noah, Ashley, Dane, Carson, Alexa, Olivia, Madison and Kaydence.
A funeral service for Alma will be held August 20, 2018 in the Watrous Baptist Church. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Alma can please direct contributions to the Central Parkland Lodge Auxiliary, Box 746, Lanigan, Saskatchewan S0K 2M0
