Obituary for Lydia Marie Swedberg (Fahlman)

Lydia Marie Swedberg (nee Fahlman) passed away peacefully on Friday June 1, 2018 at Manitou Lodge Long Term Care Home in Watrous, Saskatchewan at the age of 94 years. Lydia was born in Memphis, Tennessee on March 4, 1924 to Adolph John Fahlman and Elizabeth Fahlman while they were on a family trip to the United States. She was the oldest of four children. She was a career woman who attended the University of Saskatchewan for four years graduating with a degree in Home Economics & Dietetics in 1946. After graduating she was employed by the Victoria Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, B.C. and later the Hamilton General in Hamilton, ONT. She later married Robert Swedberg on November 27, 1954. They enjoyed farming in the Holdfast area. Lydia was a devoted farm wife, mother and later on a devoted grandmother. Lydia loved her community working with her father A.J. in the International Harvester Implement Business. She was his “parts” girl. Later, when married she loved cooking, canning, gardening and helping her husband with many farming duties. Lydia was also devoted to her church family in Holdfast, playing the organ for the choir starting at age six. She lived in Holdfast most of her adult life and moved to Watrous, Saskatchewan in 2012 where she lived until she passed away. She enjoyed camping at the cabin at Manitou Beach, where she loved swimming, tennis and Saskatoon berry picking. She loved to travel and took the family on many bus tours and train trips in Canada and to the U.S. She was predeceased by her husband Robert, her parents A.J. Fahlman and Elizabeth Fahlman; brother Laverne “Sonny”; and sister Milly. Lydia is survived by her brother Adolph “Mank” and Phyllis Fahlman; her children Milly (Leo) Contreras; Shelley (Ron) Makar; James Swedberg; Andrea (Shawn) Fossen; her grandchildren Ryan (Robin) Demong, Adam Demong, Justin Demong, Kyle Makar, Joel Makar, Kristy Fossen, Brady Fossen, Emily Fossen, Erika Swedberg and more recently great-grandchild Lila Eve Demong. The Mass of the Christian Burial will be held in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, Holdfast, SK on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Cemetery, Holdfast.
