Obituary for Ingeborg Annie Mason (Eriksson)

Ingeborg Annie Mason Aged 95 years Born April 21, 1923 Died May 11, 2018.

Born in the parish of Kall at Ytterkonas in northern Sweden she left Sweden for Canada in 1924, settling in Big River, Saskatchewan with her mother and father. Her mother died in childbirth in 1925 and Ingeborg was orphaned 3 years later, when her father drowned.
Following her mother’s death, Ingeborg was raised as one of the family by her uncle Andrew Peterson and his wife Kristina with her cousins Belle, Annie and Anton.
She lived with them on the family farm north of Venn until 1937 when they moved to Lanigan.

In 1940, Ingeborg moved back to Venn to work for her cousin Annie and her husband Ole Sundquist, helping in the house and on the farm.

In 1944, she married Leonard Mason and lived on the Mason farm south of Venn; until 1951 when they bought a business and moved into Venn, raising their 6 children: Claude, Clifford, Linda, James, John and Donald.

After Leonard’s death, Ingeborg moved to Watrous to enjoy her retirement. In 2010, she became a resident of Manitou Lodge where she lived until her death.

Ingeborg loved dancing and singing and had a lovely alto voice. As an active member in her community wherever she lived, she brought a dry wit and a twinkle in her eye. Her many hobbies, included quilting, embroidery, cross stitch, crewel work, knitting and crochet. She liked to read, play cards, do jigsaw puzzles and was a Blue Jays baseball fan. She was an enthusiastic 5-pin bowler and enjoyed being an active member of the Women’s Institute for over 40 years.

With a quiet strength, she was kind and caring, never spoke poorly of anyone, rarely complained, and coped to make the best of things. She will be remembered as a loving mother and a loyal friend.

Predeceased by her husband, Leonard Mason; birth parents, Edward and Olivia Eriksson; adoptive parents, Andrew and Kristina Peterson and cousin/siblings, Belle Freeman, Annie Sundquist, Anton Peterson

Survived by her children Claude (Bev), Clifford, Linda, James, John (Ginny), Donald (Renee); 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren
