Obituary for Evelyn Ingeborg "Ev" Adams (Eckstrand)

ADAMS: (Ev) Evelyn Ingeborg (nee Eckstrand)
Sept. 11, 1936 – Mar. 9, 2018
Ev Adams, aged 81 years, passed away at Humboldt Hospital on Friday, Mar. 9, 2018. She suffered a stroke on Feb. 13, 2018 and thankfully did not suffer long. Ev was born Sept. 11, 1936 in Kelliher, SK and was the second of four children. Ev completed her high school in Punnichy, Sask. and then obtained her RPN from Whitby training school in Whitby, Ont. in 1963. In 1964 she married Ken Adams of Toronto. She worked at Sunnybrook Hospital until 1982. After moving to Watrous in 1982, she worked with her brother, Lee Eckstrand at Pip’s Esso until she retired in 1996. Ev never had children but was a wonderful aunt to Lee and Lorraine’s four children. She followed all their exploits in sports, drama, dancing, graduations and all family gatherings - especially picnics. She sang with the Jubilees for many years and sadly missed it when her voice gave out. She also bowled each winter and played cards at the drop-in centre whenever possible right up until May 1, 2017 when she moved to LeRoy. She always marvelled at how many faces she knew from working at the store for 18 years. Everyone said, “Hi Ev” and she couldn’t remember who they were but talked to them all. She loved all food but especially loved the Christmas gifts from her sister-in-law Lorraine who would bake Swedish thin bread and brown bread for her - the perfect gift for someone who has everything they need she would say. Ev was predeceased by her parents, Lars and Elsie Eckstrand, her husband Ken, her brothers Roger and Leonard and their wives. She is survived by her brother Lee (Lorraine), their children Marnie (Konrad), Ben (Ashley), Rawleen (Cameron) and Hailey. Also nephews Roger (Lorraine), Kris (Leanne), Kevin (Claudine), Karl and niece Lesley. There will be a private family memorial in Calgary in May.
