Obituary for Roy William Thomas Fletcher

Roy passed away peacefully on March 5, 2018 at Watrous Manitou Lodge at the age of 94.

Roy is survived by his wife of twelve years Dorothy, his children Marie Holdner (Brad Holdner) and Mark Fletcher (Kim Williams), his grandson Blaine Holdner (Angela Holdner), and great-granddaughter Claudia Weinmeyer. Roy is also survived by Dorothy’s children Marlene Dieno (Melvin Dieno) and Louis Thompson (Agnes Thompson), and both of their children and grandchildren.

Roy was predeceased by his first wife Helen, his parents Alex and Clara and his sister June.

Roy was born in Lemberg, Saskatchewan on October 5, 1923. He farmed the family homestead until moving to Young, Saskatchewan in 1969 to work at the local mine. He worked at the mine until retirement at the age of 65. He stayed in Young until 2014 when he and Dorothy moved to Watrous, Saskatchewan.

Roy was a dedicated member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 70 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Roy got great enjoyment from socializing with family and friends. He lived life to the fullest, enjoying the outdoors (walking and biking) and the company of others. He was compassionate and kind to others with a true love of family and history.

A Funeral Service will be held in Christ Lutheran – Young United Church, Young, SK on Saturday March 10, 2018 at 2:00pm. Those wishing to donate “In Memory of Roy Fletcher” please donate to the Young United Church or Canadian Cancer Society.
