FREY: Harold
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Harold Frey, aged 91 years, of Watrous, Sask. at Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan, Sask. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018. Harold was born on Sept. 24, 1926. He grew up on the family farm,
the second oldest of four children. In 1957 he married Mary Martell and together they continued farming on the home farm and raised four children. Harold was a talented musician and could play almost any instrument he picked up. The button accordion was his favourite and many a lively tune was enjoyed. He also loved to dance and was a popular dance partner at Danceland. Harold was also a collector of many “things”. In past
years he spent countless hours at auction sales, scouring the countryside for items for the farm, or a musical instrument or some other treasure. Anyone who knew Harold would be well aware of his love of visiting and telling stories. When you sat down for a visit, you
knew it would be more than a five minute chat! Over the last few years, Harold’s memory started to slip but he was able to remain in his own home with the wonderful home care staff checking in on him daily. He very recently moved to Central Parkland Lodge in Lanigan and settled in nicely really enjoying the opportunity of being able to visit with the other residents. His time there was short, and after only two weeks into his stay he passed away peacefully in his sleep. Harold is survived by two sisters, Frieda McWillie and Irene Bird (Harold); and his children and their families: Ron and Patti Frey (Joel and Izabela; Danielle and Josh); Norma and Jerry Vanthuyne (Jerris and Vanessa; Landis and Maddi; Brady); Murray and Lori Ann Frey (Clay, Rayner and Shylo); Wes Frey (Carleen and Chris; Jessica and Jason, Lillian and Levi; Travis). He was predeceased by his wife, Mary; his parents, Otto and Christina Frey; his sister Alvina Toth; brothers-in-law, Joseph Toth, George McWillie and Wilbert Kirkland. A family celebration of life was held at Fotheringham’s Funeral Chapel, Watrous, Sask. on February 5, 2018 conducted by Rev. Marilyn Stobbs. Pallbearers were Joel Frey, Jerris Vanthuyne, Landis Vanthuyne, Brady Vanthuyne, Clay Frey, Rayner Frey and Travis Frey. Murray Frey was register attendant.
Eulogy was given by Ron Frey. Lori Ann Frey and Landis Vanthuyne were readers. Organist was Melanie Manson. Interment followed at Watrous Cemetery. Memorial donations directed to Watrous Manitou Beach Heritage Centre, Box 735,Watrous, Sask. S0K 4T0 would be appreciated.
