Obituary for Thomas Robert "Bob" Halstead

Thomas Robert (Bob) Halstead was born on March 1, 1940, in Gleichen, Alberta, and died peacefully in Nokomis, Saskatchewan, at the age of 77, shortly after 6:00 pm on August 18, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

Bob moved to Nokomis at the age of 2 and spent his working life there farming 7 miles northwest of town. He devoted his entire life to his wife, children and the community. Bob met Lucille (Lu), the love of his life, in school at Nokomis. Bob and Lu were married on July 27, 1963, and were happily married for 54 wonderful years.

Bob had a passion for fishing, curling and golf. He was a pillar of the community, where he was involved in amateur hockey coaching, served as Treasurer for the Rink Committee, and was a member of the School Board, the Credit Union Board, and gave much of his free time to volunteering for the Nokomis Legion and the Nokomis Agricultural Society.

Bob spent many happy years with Lu wintering in Sun Valley Village in Harlingen, Texas, where they made many new friends. Everywhere Bob went, he made friends, as people are drawn to his bright and cheerful personality. Even when travelling overseas, he made friends with complete strangers on crowded trains in Japan. Bob was well-liked by everyone and was a favourite with the ladies, young and old.

Bob was happiest when he was farming, spending time with his wife and family, visiting with his friends and relatives, playing cards with friends, and hosting visitors from near and far. Bob was always generous to everyone he met. His kindness and sense of humour will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.

Bob was predeceased by his loving parents William and Ada, and his older siblings, Phyllis, Rita, Ron, Doris, Frances, and Edward. Bob is survived by his beloved wife Lucille (Richards), his elder sister Norma, and his sons: Brett (Myrna), Ward (Sandy), Vance, Dustin (Charla); and his 8 loving grandchildren: Amanda (Owen), Shane (Paula), Ashley, Kelsey, Austin, Dawson, Kailey and Zaiden, and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

The funeral service will be held on August 26, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Nokomis Centennial Hall, Nokomis, Saskatchewan. Interment will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, you may remember Bob by donating to the Nokomis Legion, the Nokomis Agricultural Society, or the Canada Lung Association.
