Obituary for Lawrence Eldon Beeler

Lawrence was born in Nokomis, SK on August 4, 1945. He was raised on the family farm until age 16 when his family moved into Nokomis. He later moved to Saskatoon where he trained and worked as an auto mechanic. During this time in Saskatoon he discovered his true passion: flying airplanes. In 1968 he took a 3 month break from flying to tour Europe with his friend Ken Hurley. In the fall of 1968 he met Linda at a dance in Saskatoon and they married on June 14, 1969. In 1971, they moved to Northwestern Ontario where he was able to pursue his passion of flying. In the early 1980s he co-founded and was the chief flight instructor of the Dryden Flight Centre which offered a flying school and served the Dryden area with charter flights and airline services. When he was diagnosed with MS in March of 1989 his career as a pilot ended after logging over 10,000 hours of flying time. He continued to work as an active partner for the Dryden Flight Centre for a few years. Lawrence and Linda moved back to Nokomis in 1997 where they reacquainted with former friends and family and became part of the community by serving as a deacon at the Nokomis Baptist Church, Treasurer of the Museum Board and Chairman of the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation. Lawrence passed away peacefully at home on March 23, 2017.
